Cyberabad police arrest 319 for drunk driving over the weekend

Hyderabad: Over the weekend, the Cyberabad Traffic Police arrested 319 people for drunk driving. This operation took place across several areas under the Cyberabad police’s jurisdiction. Police teams were specifically deployed to monitor and catch those driving under the influence. All those caught will face a court trial.

During the crackdown, officials seized 245 two-wheelers, 12 three-wheelers, 58 four-wheelers, and four heavy vehicles. Among the offenders, 289 had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels from 35 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml. Twenty-three individuals had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and seven had levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.

The Miyapur zone recorded the highest incidents with 41 cases. Shadnagar followed closely with 38 cases. Both Shamshabad and Rajendranagar reported 32 cases each, while Chevella had 29 cases.

In the last week of August, courts dealt with 217 drunk driving cases. Out of these, 205 people were fined, and 12 received jail sentences ranging from one to four days. Additionally, another 12 individuals were required to perform social service as part of their punishment.

The Cyberabad Police emphasized the seriousness of drunk driving. They issued a warning that if anyone drives drunk and causes a fatal accident, they will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. This charge could lead to up to 10 years in prison and a fine for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
