Hyderabad: Over the weekend, the Cyberabad Traffic Police carried out a special campaign to tackle drunk driving. They caught 435 individuals breaking the law. These operations happen on weekends with special teams focusing on reducing drunk driving incidents.
During this campaign, 306 people were caught on two-wheelers, 30 on three-wheelers, 49 in cars, and 2 driving heavy vehicles. Most offenders had blood alcohol content (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Specifically, 383 people fell into this category. Meanwhile, 41 individuals had BAC levels from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, and 11 had levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. Most of these offenders were young, with 183 aged 21-30. The next group, 154 offenders, were aged 31-40. There were also 73 offenders aged 41-50. The police plan to present all offenders in court.
The prior week, from September 8 to 13, saw 910 drunk driving cases dealt with in court. Out of these, 908 people received fines, while 2 faced jail time. One person spent a day in jail, another two days, and two others were ordered to perform community service.
