Gadwal District Collector B.M. Santhosh encouraged people with disabilities to take advantage of various welfare programs. The focus is on ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can access opportunities provided by the government.
On Friday, an event organized by the Department of Women, Child, Senior Citizens, and Differently-Abled Welfare, in partnership with the Central Government, took place at the IDOC meeting hall. During this event, 114 high-tech assistive devices worth ₹21.27 lakhs were distributed to 93 beneficiaries from the district. These devices were provided by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) and handed over by Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy and District Collector Santhosh.
The Collector emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of differently-abled individuals. He mentioned a special camp held on September 28 in Gattu mandal, where participants were identified for assistive devices, which were then distributed with ALIMCO’s help.
He also highlighted several programs available for persons with disabilities (PwDs), such as a ₹4,000 monthly pension, a 4% job reservation in government positions, financial subsidies, and UDID cards for nationwide access to facilities. He encouraged individuals to use these schemes to become self-reliant.
The equipment distributed included 28 standard tricycles, 35 battery-operated tricycles, 7 wheelchairs, 8 walking sticks, 4 crutches, 16 BTE digital hearing aids with zinc-air batteries, 12 TLM kits, 2 accessible canes (Sugamya Canes), and 2 smartphones with screen readers.
MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy reiterated the commitment of both the Central and State Governments to support the differently-abled community. He appreciated ALIMCO’s role in providing the necessary equipment and promised continued support and opportunities.
The event was attended by Additional Collectors Lakshmi Narayana and Narsinga Rao, District Welfare Officer Sunanda, ALIMCO representative Sunita Das, and many beneficiaries with their families.
This initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to social welfare, aiming to provide dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for everyone.
