Gadwal: In an effort to make roads safer and reduce accidents across the Gadwal district, District Collector B.M. Santosh has urged all departments to work with full dedication and responsibility.
During a District Road Safety Committee meeting held on Thursday at the IDOC Conference Hall, the Collector met with District Superintendent of Police Srinivasa Rao and officials from various departments to review current road safety measures.
The Collector asked officials to take urgent steps to prevent accidents. He instructed them to identify dangerous stretches—especially between Beechupalli and Pullur junction—and carry out a joint inspection with the Police and National Highways officials by Monday. Based on the findings, quick action must follow.
He stressed the need for better signage and road repairs. The Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department was told to install hazard signs and warning boards. They must also fix damaged culverts on the Erravalli–Gadwal road.
Speed breakers on the Gadwal–Raichur road are too high and unsafe, the Collector noted. He ordered that they be rebuilt to meet safety standards so vehicles can pass safely.
To improve night-time travel, the Collector told officials to ensure proper lighting, clear signboards, and strong barricades at all check posts. Roads around these areas should be smooth and surroundings kept clean for a better experience for travelers.
He also called for CCTV cameras to be installed in key places. Any non-working cameras must be repaired immediately. He emphasized that not just the police, but also officials from the engineering departments should visit accident sites. This will help understand why crashes happen and how to prevent them.
Departments were asked to submit proposals for temporary repairs where needed most. The Collector raised concerns about liquor shops near highways and accident hotspots like Jamulamma Road. He directed the Excise Department to inspect these areas carefully.
The Health Department was told to keep ambulances ready near accident-prone areas to provide fast medical help when needed.
The Collector underscored the need for teamwork between departments such as Police, R&B, Panchayat Raj, and National Highways to make roads safer for everyone.
Key officials at the meeting included DSP Mogilayya, R&B Executive Engineer Pragathi, Panchayat Raj Engineer Damodar Rao, District Transport Officer Venkat Ramana Rao, District Medical and Health Officer Siddappa, and National Highways Project Director Himansh Gupta, along with other officers from the Excise, Police, and Engineering departments.
