Karimnagar: The rainy season is a time of joy but also brings health concerns. Doctors advise being alert to diseases common in this period.
Stagnant rainwater and high humidity help mosquitoes and germs to grow quickly. This increases the risk of seasonal diseases. However, with the right precautions, these diseases can be avoided. Dr. Lokesh Beerakayala, a general physician at Medicover Hospital in Karimnagar, emphasizes the importance of personal and environmental hygiene to maintain health during the rainy season.
To prevent most diseases, drink clean water, eat freshly cooked meals, and take steps to stop mosquito breeding. If you feel feverish or show any illness symptoms, seek medical advice immediately; do not ignore it.
During the rains, diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya, spread by mosquitoes, become common. Water and food contamination also lead to gastrointestinal diseases such as typhoid, cholera, hepatitis B, and diarrhea.
Cold weather and temperature changes can increase viral respiratory infections like colds and flu. Ensure water does not collect around your home. Clean coolers, old tires, cans, and sumps regularly.
Without these measures, mosquitoes will breed and spread diseases. Use meshes on doors and windows to keep mosquitoes out. Additionally, frequent hand washing, drinking boiled and cooled water, and eating freshly prepared food can help you stay healthy, according to the doctor.
