The southwest monsoon, which has already arrived in parts of South Telangana, is expected to stall due to an El Niño pattern that will disrupt normal progression across the state. Weather experts indicate that approximately 70% of Telangana will experience prolonged summer heat and a delayed monsoon arrival, with the northern and eastern districts facing particularly harsh conditions.
Temperatures in North Telangana and East Telangana are forecast to cross 43°C at several locations over the coming days. The state capital Hyderabad is also expected to witness a return of intense heat, with mercury levels climbing back to 40°C. This represents a significant setback for regions that were anticipating relief from the scorching summer temperatures.
Despite the monsoon halt, meteorological conditions suggest that active thunderstorms will develop during the next few days. These weather systems are likely to be particularly prominent in the monsoon-covered areas of South Telangana, as well as scattered parts of East Telangana and West Telangana. The thunderstorm activity is attributed to the high heat buildup in the region.
North Telangana districts face the bleakest outlook, with no prospects for monsoon revival or heat relief expected until at least June 18. Residents in these areas will need to endure extended periods of extreme temperatures without the cooling effect of monsoon rains. Agricultural activities and water resources in these regions may face additional stress during this prolonged dry spell.
Weather forecasters indicate that relief may arrive after June 17-18, when a Low Pressure Area (LPA) or “అల్పపీడనం” in Telugu, is expected to form. This meteorological system is anticipated to bring substantial rainfall across the state and help revive the monsoon’s northward progression. The LPA formation could mark the turning point for the stalled monsoon conditions.
