Power Restored in Hyderabad After Heavy Rains Damage Poles and Transformers
Heavy rains in Hyderabad from Thursday afternoon until midnight caused widespread damage to the city’s power infrastructure. Trees and branches fell onto power lines, damaging poles and transformers, which led to major power outages across several areas.
In response, field teams were quickly sent out and worked all night to repair the damage. Thanks to their efforts, electricity was restored in most affected areas by early morning.
According to officials, the storm damaged a total of 57 electric poles and 44 distribution transformers in the Greater Hyderabad City. In the Hyderabad Central Circle alone, 23 poles and 7 transformers were damaged.
Other areas also saw significant damage. The Hyderabad South Circle reported damage to 15 poles and 11 transformers, while the Secunderabad Circle had issues with 5 transformers. In the Saroor Nagar Circle, 14 transformers and 3 poles were affected. In Habsiguda, 7 poles and 7 transformers were damaged.
Despite the heavy rain and strong winds, field staff stayed on duty throughout the crisis. They worked hard to check fiber-optic cables, inspect substations, and make sure repairs were carried out safely and quickly.
Musharraf Faruqui, IAS, the chairman and managing director of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited, praised the dedication of the teams. He encouraged them to continue working with the same level of commitment and teamwork in future emergencies to provide better service to the public.
