A blast at a glass manufacturing unit in Shadnagar on Friday resulted in the death of five people and injuries to at least 15 others. The explosion occurred at the South Glass manufacturing unit in Farooq Nagar mandal of Ranga Reddy district. The workers were thrown several meters away by the intense blast, with body parts of the deceased scattered around the area. The injured individuals have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, many of whom are migrants from Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
The workers suffered serious injuries from glass shards piercing their bodies. Thick black smoke engulfed the area as flames spread through the building. Firefighters and police arrived to conduct rescue operations. The deceased workers were identified as Chittaranjan, Ram Prakash, Ravikanth, and Roshan. The Fire department reported that the blast occurred around 4:30 pm due to overfilling of air in the compressor, causing a fire in the furnace section that quickly spread to other areas. A case has been registered by the police for investigation.
Around 100 workers were present in the unit during the incident. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, currently in Delhi, inquired about the blast and directed officials to provide necessary rescue, relief, and medical treatment to the injured individuals. BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao also expressed shock over the incident and urged the government to ensure proper medical aid for those injured.
