The Telangana State Drug Control Administration (TSDCA) discovered that medicines from a fake company called Meg Lifesciences contained only chalk powder and starch. These medicines did not have any active medicinal ingredients, so people were warned not to use them.
To stop the spread of fake drugs, TSDCA seized stocks worth Rs 33.35 lakh during raids and filed cases against those involved in the illegal drug trade. Drug inspectors bought medicines from the company at various medical shops and found that they were essentially made of chalk powder and starch, which could be harmful to consumers.
The Director General of TSDCA, V B Kamalasan Reddy, stated that these fake medicines were manufactured by criminals and could pose health risks. The administration issued notices to retailers and wholesalers to stop selling any drugs with the Meg Lifesciences label and asked the public to report any information about these medicines.
People were advised to contact their nearest DCA office or local drug inspector if they come across any drugs from Meg Lifesciences. The contact details for these offices can be found on the Drugs Control Administration website, and there is a toll-free number available for inquiries during working hours.
