Hyderabad: The supply of fertilizers in Telangana for the Vanakalam-2025 season is improving, though there is a shortage of 2.64 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) as of Sunday. The State Agriculture Department noted that the season began with 1.92 LMT of stock on April 1, 2025. The central government planned to provide 9.80 LMT for the rainy season, and so far, 8.30 LMT has been allocated, with 5.66 LMT actually delivered.
By August 24, the state had received 8.64 LMT of fertilizers out of 8.80 LMT allotted, showing strong distribution efforts. Urea is the most needed, with 3.80 LMT allotted and 3.60 LMT delivered. DAP has 2.20 LMT allotted and 2.10 LMT supplied. Complex fertilizers slightly exceeded targets with 2.64 LMT supplied against 2.60 LMT allotted. Supplies increased in June and July to match sowing activities, peaking in August with 2.80 LMT allotted and 2.64 LMT supplied. However, meeting the demand for urea remains challenging.
Dealers are at the forefront, holding 2.92 LMT of stock, which includes 1.22 LMT of urea and 0.85 LMT of complex fertilizers. Societies and MARKFED have 0.57 LMT and 0.55 LMT, while company warehouses maintain 0.60 LMT as a buffer. “We are collaborating with dealers, societies, and companies to ensure smooth distribution. The slight shortages in urea and DAP are being managed,” said a senior agriculture officer.
Agriculture Department officials mention that the ongoing Vanakalam season is benefiting from these coordinated efforts, enhancing agricultural productivity and increasing farmer confidence.
