Hyderabad: Former MLAs Julakanti Rangareddy and Teegala Sagar, who is also the State General Secretary of the Farmers’ Association, have urged the government to take steps to ensure that farmers get a fair support price for their crops. They said that farmers work very hard to grow their produce, and they deserve to be paid fairly.
They also suggested that if providing a support price right away is not possible, then the government should arrange cold storage facilities. This would help store the crops safely until a better price can be offered.
Recently, a team from the Telangana Farmers’ Association visited the Gaddi Annaram fruit market in Batasingaram, located in the Abdullahpur Met Mandal of Rangareddy district. During the visit, Julakanti Rangareddy spoke to the media about the problems farmers are facing.
He explained that many farmers have spent a lot of money on their crops but are not getting good returns. Due to recent wind and rain, much of the mango crop has been damaged, causing heavy losses. He also raised concerns that traders and middlemen are taking advantage of the situation by buying the produce for very low prices—between ₹25,000 and ₹70,000 per ton—which he said is not enough to cover the farmers’ costs.
