Hyderabad: On World Heritage Day, also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, a special heritage walk was held on Friday in the Old City of Hyderabad. The walk started at the famous Charminar and ended at the beautiful Chowmahalla Palace. It gave participants a chance to experience the city’s rich history through its grand old buildings, mosques, and traditional architecture.
The walk took people through several important landmarks such as Laad Bazar, Moti Galli, Mecca Masjid, Jilu Khana, Mehboob Chowk (also known as Murgi Chowk), Iqbal-ud-Doula Devdi, and Khurshid Jah Bahadur Palace. These places showed how modern life blends with centuries-old traditions in Hyderabad.
One of the participants, Nida Mehreen, said the walk was a memorable journey. She shared that it deepened her love and respect for Hyderabad’s culture and history. She described the experience as one she would always treasure.
The heritage walk was organized by the Deccan Heritage Academy Trust. It was supported by the Archaeological Survey of India (Hyderabad Circle), Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC), JBRAC, and the Forum for a Better Hyderabad. Students from various schools and colleges, including City College, Oxford Grammar School, and Vaishnavi Architecture College, also took part, along with members of civil society.
The event began at Charminar, where Veda Kumar Manikonda, Chairman of the Deccan Heritage Academy, officially launched the walk. As the group moved from one historical site to another, he explained the importance of each place. He also reminded everyone that preserving heritage is not just the government’s job—it is something all citizens should take part in.
