The G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science (GNITS) Women’s Engineering College hosted a special event to celebrate the 300th birth anniversary of Yodharani Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. The event took place at 2 PM in the IT Seminar Hall and was part of a larger initiative organized by ABRSM-TS. This initiative aims to hold 300 programs across higher educational institutions in Telangana from February 24 to March 8, 2025.
The celebration was attended by college principals, deans, conveners, co-convenors, department heads, teachers, and around 180 students. The event began with a welcome speech by Convener Dr. K. Shyamala Devi, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp.
During the program, Principal Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy spoke about the leadership and contributions of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar. He emphasized how her life lessons remain relevant today. JNTUH R&D Director Prof. V. Kamakshi Prasad also highlighted Ahilyabai Holkar’s wisdom and encouraged women to strive for excellence in various fields.
The chief guest, Shri Gunta Laxman, National Joint Managing Secretary, delivered an inspiring speech. He spoke about the importance of setting goals, understanding India’s rich history, and contributing to society. He urged students to develop a spirit of generosity and service for the nation’s progress.
Professor P. Prakash Babu, Vice Chancellor of Puducherry University, also addressed the audience. He discussed the revival of India’s knowledge system and encouraged students to uphold core values while actively participating in the country’s development.
A significant part of the event was the official launch of the book “Lokamata Devi Ahilya Bhai Holkar,” which honors the legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar. This initiative further highlighted the importance of the occasion.
The program aimed to instill patriotism, leadership, and social responsibility among students. Several dignitaries, including organizing committee members, deans, department heads, and faculty members, attended the event.
The celebration concluded with students singing the National Anthem, leaving the attendees inspired and motivated. Through this event, the college not only paid tribute to a great historical leader but also encouraged students to embrace values that contribute to national development.
