Gadwal weavers honored for supporting traditional weaving

Eight weavers from Jogulamba Gadwal district received recognition from Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. They were praised for using Electronic Jacquards through a government subsidy program, which helps them improve the production of the famous Gadwal handloom sarees.

The Weaver Servicing Center (WSC) in Hyderabad organized this event under the National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) at Shilparamam Arts, Crafts, and Cultural Society in Hyderabad.

The weavers Bhavandla Srihari, S Shiva Shankar, AT Srinu, A Saritha, Himabindu, Mallikarjun, Venkatesh, and K Radha have effectively combined tradition with technology by using electronic jacquards. This approach maintains the rich weaving tradition of Gadwal while improving efficiency.

During the ceremony, Kishan Reddy praised the weavers for balancing India’s handloom traditions with modern advancements.

NIFT Director Malini and handloom association leaders Akkala Shantharam and Budharpu Hariprasad were also present. They highlighted the importance of supporting artisans in adopting new weaving technologies.
