Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started a new program to collect scrap and old items from homes in the city. This drive began in the Kukatpally area, where special vehicles are going to houses to collect items like old furniture and clothes. These collected items will be given to people in need.
The main goal of this program is to stop people from throwing waste into drains and canals, which often causes blockages and flooding, especially during the rainy season. GHMC officials say that removing waste from clogged drains is a big challenge, and this initiative will help prevent such problems.
The program is being supervised by Zonal Commissioner Apoorva Chauhan and Deputy Commissioner Gangadhar. On Saturday, the drive took place in several areas including Brindavan Colony, Hyder Nagar, Venkatrao Nagar, RR Colony, Old Bowenpally, and Balanagar.
GHMC plans to carry out this drive every Saturday in different parts of the city. The response from residents has been positive so far. People are happy to have a way to get rid of their old, unused items properly.
A GHMC solid waste management officer explained that many people throw old items in open spaces or drains, which leads to unhealthy conditions and water blockages. This new program will help stop that.
GHMC is encouraging citizens to take part in the drive and keep their homes and neighborhoods clean. The civic body will promote the program using loudspeaker announcements, drum beats, and messages from local leaders and sanitation workers. Residents are urged to hand over their waste and support the effort to keep Hyderabad clean and safe.
