Hyderabad – As the rainy season approaches, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner RV Karnan has instructed officials to start drainage work in areas where land is already available. His directive aims to reduce the risk of flooding during the monsoon.
On Tuesday, the Commissioner inspected development projects in Moosapet, Gajularamaram, and Kukatpally under the Kukatpally zone. He visited the Moosapet Metro Station, where water stagnation has been a concern, and reviewed the ongoing box drain construction funded by the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP). This drain runs from IDPL Cheruvu Surplus Nala to the RTC depot.
Officials informed him that the work had slowed down due to land acquisition problems. Karnan urged them to take immediate action to prevent flooding in these areas before the monsoon begins.
He also addressed delays in the Kaithalapur road widening project. The work had been stalled due to a court case. The Commissioner asked the Zonal Commissioner to handle the matter urgently and ensure progress.
To fix waterlogging issues in Ambedkar Nagar, officials proposed laying a 90 mm diameter pipeline. Since an existing water pipeline is already in place, the Water Board has been asked to carry out this work. Karnan directed the Zonal Commissioner to coordinate with the Managing Director of the Water Board and complete the task quickly.
Karnan also recommended creating a free left turn near JNTU to ease traffic flow. He later visited the under-construction multi-purpose function hall at TSII in Shapur. He stressed that the facility should be completed and opened for public use as soon as possible.
During the visit, engineers confirmed that the ground floor kitchen, dining hall, and both the first and second floors of the building had already been completed.
The inspection team included Zonal Commissioner Apurva Chauhan, Zonal SE Chinna Reddy, Engineers Ramesh and Srinath Reddy, along with Deputy Commissioners, Town Planning Officers, and other officials.
