Hyderabad: Residents of Madina Nagar in Yakutpura recently protested against local MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj due to frequent rainwater flooding. In response, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan visited the flood-affected areas on Wednesday. He instructed officials to quickly remove stormwater from low areas and to develop a permanent plan to manage stormwater during future rains.

The Commissioner, along with the MLA and a GHMC team, examined the flooded regions in Madina Nagar, Santosh Nagar Circle, and Charminar Zone following recent heavy rains. A strong police presence was noted during the visit.

Karnan tasked engineering officials with creating a thorough plan for long-term flood control. He promised the MLA that necessary actions would be taken to address the community’s concerns.

Temporary solutions will be handled by the Maintenance Wing to deal with current waterlogging, stated Karnan. He added that the Projects Wing would pursue a lasting solution to prevent future flooding, enhancing monsoon readiness.

Zonal Commissioner Venkanna, Zonal SE Maheshwar Reddy, DC Mangatayaru, CE Sahadev Ratnakar, Project EE Srinivas, Corporator Vasiuddin, and others joined the Commissioner during the inspection.

Recent heavy rains caused water to enter homes in Madina Colony, Maula ka Chilla, and other areas. When the MLA visited, residents expressed anger over unfulfilled promises and accused him of ignoring the issue despite ongoing complaints.

Police later filed a case against residents for allegedly attacking party leaders.
