The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is preparing to clean nalas and stormwater drains before the monsoon. They have divided the work into 56 packages across all 30 circles of GHMC. The work will be done by private agencies assigned by GHMC.

Last year, GHMC identified over 350 desilting works in 150 divisions of Greater Hyderabad. This year, the corporation divided the work into 56 packages, costing around Rs 53 crore. Earlier, small contractors failed to carry out the work properly. They would remove silt from SW drains and dump it on roads, which would then re-enter the drains and nalas.

The Charminar zone has the highest number of works (29) worth Rs 16.24 crore. This zone has many small and medium SW drains and nalas. The works will be completed before the onset of the monsoon season. The LB Nagar zone has five works worth Rs 5.5 crore, Khairtabad has six works at Rs 10 crore, Serilingampally has five works at Rs 7 crore, Kukatpally has five works at Rs 4.95 crore, and Secunderabad has six works worth Rs 9 crore.
