Hyderabad is taking steps to protect the environment. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is giving out 200,000 eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols to people in the city. They also plan to hand out eco-friendly clay lamps and diyas, made from recycled materials.
On Sunday, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan began distributing these idols to city employees. Residents can collect their clay Ganesh idols at all GHMC circles and zonal offices on August 25 and 26. The aim is to encourage the use of natural clay idols and reduce the reliance on harmful Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. These clay idols are completely natural and biodegradable.
The Mayor announced that preparations are complete for various services like sanitation, street lighting, and road repairs. They have also arranged for immersion setups with cranes and control rooms. To manage the celebrations smoothly, GHMC has employed 25,000 workers working in shifts.
Additionally, the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) is distributing over 320,000 clay Ganesh idols throughout the state. On Saturday, Minister Konda Surekha launched posters promoting these eco-friendly idols for the festivities starting on August 27.
