Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Saturday that auto/cab drivers and gig workers will be eligible for a Rs 5 lakh accidental policy, as promised by the Congress party. The government will also provide up to Rs 10 lakh of free medical assistance through Rajiv Aarogyashri.

The Chief Minister held discussions with gig workers, auto and cab drivers to address their issues. He also announced that Rs 2 lakh will be given from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the family of a delivery boy who had a fatal fall from a building four months ago. The government aims to develop an App through T-Hub to ensure the welfare of gig workers and drivers.

Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of social security and employment for workers in the unorganized sector. He mentioned that these measures were promised by Rahul Gandhi during the election campaign. The State government will also study the welfare policies implemented by the Rajasthan government for drivers and gig workers.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar later briefed the media about the meeting with auto unions. He addressed their concerns regarding the Mahalakshmi ‘free travel’ scheme for women. He urged all unions to come together and form a network to make things easier. Prabhakar also criticized political parties for trying to disrupt the successful launch of the Mahalakshmi scheme.
