Hyderabad: The area around the historic Golconda Fort is struggling with heavy traffic jams recently. Known for its tight streets, it is one of the most congested places, especially during busy hours. People often face hour-long delays at Banjara Darwaza and Fateh Darwaza.
Navigating these gateways is difficult for locals. The 20-foot wide two-way road contributes to the traffic mess. Residents have asked officials to improve traffic flow at these key entrances. These gates are critical for those living in nearby colonies.
Traffic problems affect residents of Bada Bazar, Chota Bazar, Bala Hissar, Ibrahimbagh, Katora House, Resham-bagh, Heera Khana, Sadathnagar, Qazi Galli, and Risala Bazar. Many use Fateh Darwaza to reach Langer Houz or Banjara Darwaza to get to Tolichowki Road. Increasing tourist numbers at the fort add to the congestion.
Mohammed Habeebuddin, a resident of Golconda Bada Bazar, reports daily jams at these gates. “These are crucial links between local areas and the city, but narrow passages cause blockages,” he mentioned.
Residents say entering the Golconda Fort area is hard due to rising traffic, especially between the Darwazas. Despite traffic police and signals, jams last for hours, says Mohammed Rafi from Risala Bazar.
Habeebuddin, also an activist, pointed out the need to widen roads before these entrances. He suggested opening the road from Banjara Darwaza through the Golf Course to Jamali Darwaza for public use and improving roads around the fort without causing damage.
Habeebuddin also noted that the road from GHMC park Fateh Darwaza to Moti Darwaza needs repairs, and widening from Moti Darwaza to MD lines is overdue. Pipeline work ongoing for three years adds to the residents’ woes.
Locals also face issues with open drains and garbage, leading to mosquito infestations and unhealthy conditions. Incomplete civic works and dug-up roads worsen traffic in the area.
