Shillong/Hyderabad: Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, held a detailed meeting on Friday at the Shillong Secretariat to evaluate the progress of Central Government projects in Meghalaya. Key officials, including Meghalaya Chief Secretary Shakil Ahmed and Director General of Police Idashish Nongrang, participated.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar discussed the progress and challenges of various schemes with department heads. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on developing the North-East, turning it from a neglected area into a national priority for growth.
The Minister pointed out that over Rs 2 lakh crore has been invested in infrastructure, connectivity, health, education, and livelihood since a dedicated Ministry for the North-East was established under Modi’s leadership. He noted that before 2014, the region was often ignored but now plays a central role in India’s development plans.
Officials informed the Minister about the positive impact of Central schemes in Meghalaya, including PMGSY, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ayushman Bharat, which have significantly improved local development and public welfare.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar stressed that the Prime Minister’s commitment goes beyond just funding. He mentioned that sending Union Ministers to review each state’s progress shows the government’s dedication to reaching every citizen and addressing their needs.
He encouraged state officials to work closely with Central departments to speed up implementation and ensure transparency. He promised ongoing support from the Ministry of Home Affairs to enhance governance and infrastructure in Meghalaya.
The meeting ended with a call for joint efforts between the Centre and the state to maintain development momentum and deliver real benefits to the people of Meghalaya. This visit is part of a larger effort to oversee and boost Central schemes across the North-East.
