Hyderabad: The Telangana government has banned the sale, storage, and use of mayonnaise made from raw eggs in the state. This decision was made on Wednesday.

The government explained that the ban is due to concerns about food poisoning. Over the past few months, there have been several incidents where mayonnaise made from raw eggs was suspected to be the cause of food-related illnesses. Mayonnaise, or “mayo,” is a thick, creamy sauce made by mixing egg yolks with oil and is often flavored with vinegar or lemon juice. It is commonly used as a dressing or side dish for sandwiches, salads, snacks, and shawarma.

According to the government, this action is in line with Section 18(1)(f) of the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006. This law states that if there are reasonable grounds to believe a food product poses a health risk, the authorities must take steps to inform the public and take measures to prevent harm. The food authorities and the Commissioner of Food Safety will now work to address this issue to protect public health.
