Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary on Wednesday. They visited Bapu Ghat at Langer Houz in Hyderabad, where the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed at the confluence of the Musi and Esi rivers.
The Governor, accompanied by his wife, paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi by offering floral tributes at the memorial. Later, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials, visited the site to also offer their tributes.
Several other political leaders joined in this event. Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, P. Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Jupally Krishna Rao were present. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mahesh Goud, senior leaders K. Keshava Rao, V. Hanumantha Rao, and others paid their respects by showering petals on Gandhi’s statue.
Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, Greater Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi, and Hyderabad Police Commissioner C. V. Anand also attended the event, alongside other officials. An all-religion prayer meeting was held to mark the occasion, attended by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries.
In addition, the Chief Minister unveiled posters to raise awareness about the importance of rainwater harvesting. He also shared a message remembering Mahatma Gandhi’s significant contributions to the nation through a non-violent freedom struggle. He highlighted Gandhi’s teachings on humanity and noted that October 2 is also observed as “International Satyagraha Day.” The Chief Minister emphasized that Gandhi’s life served as a guiding force for India’s freedom movement.
Revanth Reddy also paid homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. He, along with some of his ministerial colleagues, offered floral tributes to Shastri’s portrait at his residence in Jubilee Hills.
The Chief Minister praised Shastri’s famous slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” which celebrated the importance of farmers and soldiers. He remembered Shastri’s remarkable contributions as India’s second Prime Minister and admired his modest and simple lifestyle.
Revanth Reddy described Shastri as a rare and respected leader, noting that his life is an inspiration to all. He further stated that the former Prime Minister dedicated his entire life to the service of the country.
