Hyderabad: The State Government has confirmed that the Group-1 exams, which are set to begin on Monday, will not be postponed.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Saturday that the exams would proceed as scheduled. He urged students not to be misled by the opposition’s claims, stating that the government is following the proper reservation criteria. The CM also clarified that the government decided not to implement Government Order (GO) 55, which the opposition party BRS was objecting to. He explained that this decision was made to protect the interests of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Backward Classes (BCs).
During a meeting at the Police Academy, Revanth Reddy noted that even the High Court had directed the government to move forward with the exams. He criticized the opposition party BRS, accusing them of repeatedly delaying exams over the past decade, which he said had negatively impacted many young people’s careers.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and BRS. Union Minister of State, Bandi Sanjay, along with BJP workers and Group-1 aspirants, protested at Ashok Nagar. They attempted to march towards the Secretariat, demanding the withdrawal of GO 29, which governs how the Group-1 exams will be conducted. However, the police stopped the rally and had a hard time managing the growing crowd at the BJP state office.
The protesting aspirants shared their concerns with Bandi Sanjay, explaining why they opposed GO 29. In response, Sanjay joined them in their protest at Ashok Nagar. Despite the police’s efforts to persuade him to leave, Sanjay refused, stating that he would not back down until the Group-1 candidates received justice. Eventually, the police detained Sanjay near RK Mutt and took him to the BJP office.
On the other hand, BRS leader K T Rama Rao accused the government of providing police protection to Bandi Sanjay and organizing the protest. Rao also made personal remarks about Sanjay, questioning his knowledge of the Group-1 exams and accusing him of being involved in exam paper leaks.
In reply, Bandi Sanjay accused the BRS of trying to create law and order issues by sending their activists to cause trouble. He criticized KTR for making inappropriate comments and blamed the BRS for damaging the careers of young people over the last 10 years.
