Hyderabad experienced intense rainfall on Thursday evening, disrupting daily life for many residents. Over 100 mm of rain fell in various parts of the city, causing significant waterlogging issues and bringing traffic to a halt at major intersections.
Water quickly covered the streets, leading to knee-deep flooding in some areas. Motorists struggled to navigate through the water, and many vehicles parked on the roads were submerged.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who was in New Delhi, instructed officials via phone to stay vigilant. He urged people to avoid unnecessary travel. Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi directed GHMC and HYDRAA officials to be ready to tackle any emerging problems.
Heavy rain hit places like Miyapur, Kukatpally, Moosapet, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Nampally, Koti, Chaderghat, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hayatnagar, and Abdullapurmet. Other affected areas included Kothapet, Secunderabad, Bowenpally, Marredpally, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Lakdikapool, Filmnagar, Borabanda, Yousufguda, and several places in the Old City like Kalapather, Chandrayangutta, TalabKatta, Yakutpura, and Azampura.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, several areas exceeded 100 mm of rainfall. By 8 pm, Khajaguda in Serilingampally recorded the highest at 123.5 mm, followed by Srinagar Colony with 111.3 mm, and Khairtabad and Saroornagar with 108.5 mm and 106 mm, respectively.
The rain led to waterlogging from Biodiversity to IKEA and Mindspace to Cyber Gateway, as well as on Dallas Road. The lower roads under the Raidurg flyover were flooded. Police assisted in clearing stalled autorickshaws from the flooded Chilkalguda X Roads. They warned commuters on X to avoid the area due to stuck vehicles.
Shaikpet Bridge also faced waterlogging. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the site. Meanwhile, Mayor Gadwal Vijaylakshmi conducted a teleconference with Zonal Commissioners, GHMC officials, Deputy Commissioners, and other departments to provide immediate guidance. She stressed the importance of coordination among departments to minimize public inconvenience. She emphasized preventing water accumulation on roads and maintaining traffic flow, especially in areas prone to flooding.
