Hyderabad witnessed a massive gathering at Hussain Sagar lake on Friday as over 100,000 devotees came together to watch the Khairatabad Ganesha idol’s grand immersion. This event marked the end of the city’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, with the impressive 69-foot idol being submerged, creating a memorable farewell scene.
From early morning, people crowded along Necklace Road and Tank Bund to see the idol’s arrival. The procession was so large it halted city movement. Men, women, and children joined the parade, eager to see the towering deity move through the packed streets, drawing attendees from all around.
The atmosphere was festive, with streets adorned in colorful paper decorations and confetti. Despite the crowds, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) workers efficiently cleaned and maintained order throughout the event.
Hyderabad police organized extensive measures to handle the large crowd. Officers on horseback led sections of the procession, while traffic and special forces managed road diversions. Barricades on Necklace Road and Tank Bund helped manage congestion, and drones monitored the event from above.
This strong security presence reassured devotees as they joined the idol’s journey. Chants, drumbeats, and conch sounds filled the air at every turn of the procession.
Cheers grew louder as the idol approached Hussain Sagar. Families moved closer to witness the final moments, capturing them on their phones as the massive figure prepared for immersion.
By 1:45 pm, when the idol was lowered into the lake, the area was packed with people. The immersion concluded the day’s celebrations, with final chants of ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’ echoing through the crowd.
Officials confirmed the participation of over 100,000 people, making it one of the year’s largest Ganesh Chaturthi gatherings. The collaboration between police, GHMC, and volunteers ensured a smooth event despite the turnout.
The farewell to Khairatabad Ganesha symbolized more than just the immersion of an idol; it was the end of a shared celebration uniting faith and discipline. As the waters embraced the 69-foot figure, the city cherished memories of unity and devotion.
