With rising tensions between India and Pakistan, authorities in Hyderabad are increasing efforts to prepare the city for emergencies. Officials have decided to hold more regular civil defence and emergency response drills to help both citizens and response teams handle any major crisis effectively.
Earlier, Hyderabad had no consistent schedule for these safety drills. Now, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), along with the Telangana State Fire Services and other security departments, will conduct them more frequently across the city. These drills follow guidelines from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The Enforcement, Vigilance, and Disaster Management (EV&DM) wing has committed to running weekly drills. These will take place in high-traffic areas such as schools, hospitals, shopping malls, hotels, and corporate offices—places where large crowds gather every day.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Fire Services Department is hosting weekly fire safety awareness programs. These sessions are being held at fuel stations, educational institutions, and factories. They train people to use fire extinguishers and respond quickly during fire emergencies.
The Hyderabad International Airport is also on alert. It continues to conduct anti-terrorism drills involving the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Octopus (Telangana’s anti-terror squad), local police, and medical teams. These exercises ensure that all agencies coordinate smoothly in the event of a real threat.
These increased drills are part of a focused effort to keep Hyderabad ready and resilient in a time of national uncertainty. Authorities want to make sure that both the public and emergency teams stay alert and well-prepared.
