Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) have earned global recognition for their outstanding work in the fight against drugs. They have secured first place in the ‘Excellence in Anti-Narcotics’ category at the upcoming World Police Summit (WPS) 2025.
This prestigious award ceremony will take place on May 15 at the Dubai Police Officers Club in the United Arab Emirates. The summit, hosted by Dubai Police, runs from May 13 to 15 and gathers top law enforcement agencies from over 138 countries.
The World Police Summit is one of the most respected international platforms for police forces. Agencies like the FBI, NYPD, LAPD, Metropolitan Police (UK), Australian Federal Police, and German Police also participate, making this an incredibly competitive environment.
Despite the global competition, CV Anand stood out for his leadership and innovative strategies. His team’s efforts have not only brought honor to Telangana but also placed India among leading nations in anti-narcotics enforcement.
The award highlights HNEW’s comprehensive approach to drug control. Their strategy includes working closely with multiple national agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), GST, Excise Department, FRRO, Drugs Control Administration, and Counter Intelligence units.
Beyond enforcement, HNEW has focused on community involvement. They have launched anti-drug committees in colleges and run awareness campaigns to educate the public. These efforts aim to prevent drug abuse before it starts.
Their initiatives have led to major breakthroughs. Police have dismantled international and inter-state drug networks, tracked illegal activity on the dark web, and deported several foreign drug offenders. These actions have significantly reduced the availability of drugs in the region.
Importantly, HNEW also supports rehabilitation programs for drug users. This balanced approach addresses both supply and demand, helping victims recover while cracking down on suppliers.
This global award is a clear result of the Telangana Government’s strong support and the Hyderabad City Police’s dedication. It sets a powerful example for future efforts and strengthens the goal of building a drug-free Telangana.
By earning this recognition, CV Anand and his team have proven that consistent, collaborative, and community-driven efforts can make a real difference in the fight against narcotics.
