Hyderabad: On Monday, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand and his wife Lalitha Anand visited the Sri Akkanna Madanna Temple. They officially started the Ghatam procession. The Commissioner expressed his joy in joining the event and thanked the temple officials and organizers.
He shared the temple’s rich 350-year history. During the Qutub Shahi rule in 1675, the temple held pujas for ten years. After Akkanna and Madanna passed away, these rituals stopped. When India gained independence, the temple was rebuilt, and its rituals and festivals were revived. Commissioner Anand mentioned that Goddess Mahankali was traditionally called upon to protect against disasters like plagues and floods.
Anand highlighted the grand celebration of the Bonalu festival over the last month. He credited Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha for their special efforts to make this year’s festival exceptionally grand.
Discussing security, the Commissioner ensured strong police presence at the temple and along the procession route to prevent any incidents. Arrangements were made with various departments to ensure a smooth experience for devotees. Special teams, like She Teams and Crime Teams, were on duty to prevent incidents like eve-teasing, pickpocketing, and chain snatching. Commissioner Anand appreciated all Hyderabad officials for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful festival.
Attending officials included Vikram Singh Mann (Additional CP, Law and Order), D Joel Davis (Joint CP Traffic), K Apoorva Rao (DCP Special Branch), Sneha Mehra (DCP South Zone), Rakshitha Krishna Murthy (DCP CAR Headquarters), and Venkateswarlu (DCP Traffic).
