Hyderabad: As the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicks off on March 28, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar warned people against getting involved in betting.
In a video shared on X, Sajjanar urged, “With the new IPL season starting, please do not engage in betting.” He noted the police’s strong actions last year against betting apps and mentioned the government’s efforts to pass a bill targeting these apps.
Sajjanar highlighted that despite previous measures, fraudsters continue to attract people to betting through social media platforms like Telegram and Instagram. Some influencers also promote these betting apps.
He emphasized that betting apps have negatively impacted society, causing some individuals to lose their lives.
Sajjanar explained that betting activities are not only conducted through online apps. People often gather in rented rooms to place bets. He assured that the police are keeping a close watch on those previously involved in such activities.
The commissioner encouraged citizens to stay alert and report any betting activities they encounter. Reports can be made by calling 100 or using WhatsApp at 9490616555.
He stressed the importance of avoiding betting apps, stating that doing so could save lives. Sajjanar repeated his message, “Stay away from betting apps. Say no to betting apps.”
