Another case of cyber fraud has been reported in Hyderabad, raising concerns about the increasing number of such scams.

A 50-year-old trader from the city lost Rs 1.2 lakh to cybercriminals. The fraudsters tricked him by offering discounts on shopping and groceries.

The victim received a call from someone claiming to be from a well-known shopping mall. They promised special discounts on household items. Interested in the offer, the victim clicked on a link sent by the fraudster and entered his card details, including the card number and CVV. However, a technical issue prevented the transaction from going through.

Shortly after, the fraudster called again, reassured the victim, and sent another link. When the victim clicked on it, a malicious app secretly captured his details. The fraudster then asked for his date of birth. As soon as the victim entered the information, money was quickly withdrawn from his credit card. The fraudster was able to monitor the victim’s phone screen using the malicious app.
