Hyderabad experienced heavy rain on Tuesday, leading to concerns about flooding. HYDRA Commissioner A V Ranganth inspected areas prone to floods, focusing on spots where water tends to collect and checking the stormwater drainage systems. He toured low-lying regions in Ramachandrapuram, where roads and homes were under water. The Commissioner looked at the storm drains and stressed the need to clean and widen them to stop water from piling up.
Ranganth examined ongoing projects at bypass channels and areas where blocked drains are being cleared. He highlighted the importance of directing rainwater through storm drains instead of onto main roads. For lasting solutions, he urged officials to expand canals to prevent water buildup during heavy rains. He spoke with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and National Highway officials to understand why water stagnates in Ramachandrapuram.
Later, the Commissioner checked on water-logging issues near the RuB between Chandanagar and Lingampally stations, especially at the entrance of Surabhi Colony, a known problem area. GHMC and National Highway officials explained that the water-logging is due to heavy inflows from upstream areas and overflow from Gopi Cheruvu and Chakali Cheruvu. GHMC representatives mentioned that expanding the box drain system should alleviate some flooding issues this year.
