In Hyderabad, a significant action took place on Friday, October 17. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) took down illegal structures, reclaiming 1.30 acres of government land worth Rs 110 crore.
The operation was carried out in the areas of Kulsumpura and Goshamahal. Authorities identified Ashok Singh as the person who had illegally occupied the land. He had constructed sheds on the property and rented them to idol makers.
HYDRAA stated that Hyderabad collector Harichandana had requested their assistance to safeguard public land in Kulsumpura. They highlighted the importance of this land for public projects, such as constructing homes for the poor, given the scarcity of available plots.
Local residents had lodged complaints, prompting the agency to act. Singh attempted to prevent the removal by seeking legal protection from the City Civil Court, but the ruling supported the Telangana government.
Despite the court’s decision, Singh refused to leave the land. Consequently, the demolition proceeded, and Singh reportedly confronted the officials during the operation.
Singh faces several legal challenges, with multiple cases against him in various police stations, marking him as a known encroacher. Police in Langerhouz, Mangalhat, and Shahinayathgunj have registered eight cases against him.
