Hyderabad: On Thursday, the Telangana High Court rejected a petition from BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) and party candidate Maganti Sunitha. They claimed there were major problems with the voter list for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.
The court noted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is already addressing these concerns legally, so no court intervention was needed.
The petitioners wanted the court to investigate complaints they had filed with the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer on October 13 and 14. They alleged voting irregularities and sought to protect the election process.
Dama Seshadri Naidu, a senior advocate for the petitioners, highlighted that about 1,942 duplicate votes and over 12,000 fake or unrelated votes were in the voter list. Despite complaints, he noted that the Election Commission had not taken adequate action.
In defense, the Election Commission’s lawyer, Desai Avinash Reddy, stated that updating voter lists is an ongoing task. Changes are made continually, with the final list published in July without objections. However, the Commission is reviewing new complaints and has asked the District Election Officer for a report.
The court acknowledged the Commission’s active efforts in addressing these issues. It dismissed the petition as premature because voter list revisions continue until the nomination deadline.
The Jubilee Hills by-election voting is set for November 11, with the nomination deadline on October 21.
