HYDERABAD: On Monday, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) cleared significant encroachments near the Jubilee Hills check post. They freed about 2,000 square yards of land meant for public amenities in the Jubilee Hills Cooperative Housing Society (JHCHS). This area had been occupied for nearly twenty years.
HYDRAA reported that Pilla Satyanarayana had taken over the land, creating fake house numbers and running a nursery there. The Jubilee Hills Police Station registered a case against him after the Housing Society complained. Previously, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) struggled to reclaim the land as Satyanarayana got a status quo from the High Court. He allegedly violated this by building unauthorized structures and continuing his nursery business.
The Jubilee Hills Cooperative Housing Society, using HYDRAA’s ‘Prajavani’ platform, filed a grievance. As a result, Commissioner A V Ranganath ordered a thorough investigation. HYDRAA confirmed the land was for public use according to the layout. When Satyanarayana challenged HYDRAA’s notices in the High Court, the court dismissed the previous status quo, enabling HYDRAA to proceed.
On Monday, HYDRAA conducted a demolition drive, removing illegal structures and allowing nursery operators time to relocate their plants. They then secured the land with boards and fencing. Ravindra Nath, President of the Jubilee Hills Cooperative Housing Society, and other board members expressed joy, seeing this as a victory after years of legal struggle. They thanked the Telangana government, HYDRAA, and GHMC officials for their support.
