Hyderabad: The Hyderabad District Revenue Authorities (HYDRAA) have regained over 1,600 square yards of land set aside for public parks and amenities, valued at more than Rs 16 crore.
Two separate operations led to clearing the land after receiving complaints about illegal occupation. The first operation occurred in Balanagar Mandal, located in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district. Officials responded to a report from the Motinagar Cooperative Housing Society about land encroachment involving the Sanathnagar Cooperative Society.
Originally laid out in 1967 with 172 plots, the area had reserved about 1,200 square yards for a park. Following a joint inspection with officials from GHMC, DTCP, and the Revenue Department, unauthorized structures were removed. Fences were put up around the park, and warning signs were installed to prevent future encroachment.
In another operation, HYDRAA secured 600 square yards of public land in Madinaguda village, part of the Ranga Reddy district. This land, intended for public amenities, had been partially occupied under the guise of a ‘gaushala’ (cow shelter), with another portion used as a flour mill.
The Sri Abhayanjaneya Welfare Association filed a complaint, prompting a ground-level inspection with Revenue and GHMC officials. Cows from the occupied shelter were transferred to the ISKCON temple, and illegal structures were removed.
Officials stressed the importance of preserving land for parks and public use, highlighting its significance for community health and warning against further encroachments.
