HYDRAA Cracks Down on Illegal Constructions in Hyderabad
On Tuesday, the Hyderabad Road Development Authority (HYDRAA) took action to clear illegal structures in Mehdipatnam’s Humayunnagar crossroads and Neknampur. This followed a public complaint raised during the Prajavani program, a civic initiative that allows citizens to report local issues.
HYDRAA teamed up with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) workers to remove roadside encroachments. They cleared several paan shops and part of a café that were illegally built on footpaths and spilling onto the road, causing traffic and safety problems.
In Neknampur, officials demolished a wall that had been built without permission on government land. Locals had occupied about 800 square yards, setting up sheds and blocking the path between two neighborhoods.
What made the situation more dangerous was that these sheds stood directly under high-tension power lines, creating a serious safety risk for residents.
After receiving complaints, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited the site on Saturday. He reviewed legal documents and inspected the area in person. Based on his findings, he ordered the removal of the illegal wall.
As a result, a 30-foot-wide road has now reopened, giving smooth access between Sri Venkateswara Colony and Osmania Colony. Residents welcomed the move, saying it improves connectivity and makes the area safer.
The operation is part of a larger effort to reclaim public spaces and ensure proper urban planning in Hyderabad.
