Thousands of people were affected by the recent floods along the Yamuna banks in Noida. Many of these people were hired to work in illegally built farmhouses near the river. Despite the issuance of advisories, the workers and staff were not evacuated in time.

These farmhouses are located near Nagli Wajidpur village in Sector 135, about two kilometers away from the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. More than 500 people were rescued from the farmhouses. Some of those stranded had taken refuge on the second floor, but their food and water supplies were running out.

The stranded people were discovered when top police officers and administration officials conducted a boat ride through the flooded areas. Various rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, and local authorities, were involved in the rescue operations.

Most of the structures in the floodplains are illegally constructed. In the past, over 250 farmhouses have been demolished in anti-encroachment drives. However, around 500-600 more illegal structures still exist, and action will be taken against them in the future. Some farmhouse owners have sought legal protection to prevent the demolition of their structures.
