The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high-level weather warning for Telangana, with an Orange Alert for most districts and a Red Alert for several areas as a severe heatwave continues to scorch the state till May 21. Under the Orange Warning, temperatures are expected to range between 41°C and 44°C, while districts under Red Warning may witness temperatures soaring above 45°C. All districts across the state have entered a high-temperature zone, prompting health officials to issue urgent advisories against dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

The Orange Alert and Red Alert indicate a high risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, particularly for vulnerable groups including infants, the elderly, and individuals suffering from chronic illnesses. A grueling spell of dry summer heat has engulfed the entire state, with maximum temperatures consistently scorching between 41 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius. The Director of Public Health (DPH) has issued a comprehensive heatwave advisory urging citizens to take immediate protective measures. The advisory strongly recommends restricting outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours when temperatures reach their highest levels. People are advised to wear light cotton clothing that allows better air circulation and helps the body regulate temperature more effectively. The health department has emphasized the critical importance of maintaining rigorous hydration throughout the day.

To combat dehydration during this prolonged dry spell, health officials have recommended drinking plenty of water, using Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), and consuming traditional cooling fluids.
