Mr. Amjed Ullah Khan, Spokesman of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), has strongly condemned an alleged attack by Bajrang Dal activists on a lorry carrying plywood near Mehdipatnam during late night hours. According to Khan, the activists reportedly stopped and attacked the vehicle after suspecting it was transporting cattle, despite the lorry only carrying plywood material. The incident has raised serious questions about intelligence and police preparedness in maintaining law and order in the state capital.
The lorry was allegedly attacked at multiple locations across Hyderabad. Mr. Khan stated that the vehicle was first targeted near Royal Sea Hotel at Jhirra, Karwan Road, then near Kings Function Hall, and finally near Pillar No. 65 on Mehdipatnam Road. The attackers reportedly damaged the front glass portion of the lorry during the chase and assault. The driver and the vehicle were subjected to harassment based solely on suspicion without any verification of the actual cargo.
Mr. Khan termed the incident as a complete failure of the Telangana State Intelligence Department, Hyderabad City Police Special Branch, and local police authorities. He questioned how approximately 150-200 Bajrang Dal activists allegedly assembled at around 1:00 AM and moved across different areas attacking a vehicle without any police intervention or prior intelligence inputs. The MBT spokesman expressed concern over the apparent lack of surveillance and preventive action by law enforcement agencies.
Questioning the role of local police, Mr. Khan asked how such a large number of people were allowed to gather and move freely in the middle of the night without detection or intervention. He further questioned whether the Telangana State Intelligence Department and Hyderabad City Police Special Branch had failed to gather advance inputs regarding the mobilization of activists or whether available intelligence was deliberately ignored. The incident has highlighted potential gaps in the intelligence gathering and response mechanism of state security agencies.
Mr. Khan alleged that despite repeated claims by Telangana Police that no one would be allowed to take law into their own hands, Bajrang Dal activists were openly engaging in vigilantism by stopping and attacking vehicles on mere suspicion. He criticized what he termed as a soft approach towards vigilante groups and alleged selective targeting of Muslim traders and transporters by police authorities. The MBT spokesman demanded immediate action against those involved in the attack and stronger policing against vigilante groups operating in the state.
The MBT spokesman also questioned the silence of Asaduddin Owaisi, Member of Parliament and President of AIMIM, and Akbaruddin Owaisi, MLA, over the alleged harassment and attacks taking place in Hyderabad and surrounding areas in Telangana over the last one and a half months. He asked why the AIMIM leadership was not taking up the issue directly with Sri Anumula Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Telangana, and demanding clarity on whether transportation or slaughter of oxen has been banned in the state.
Mr. Khan stated that AIMIM leaders frequently claim in other states that Muslims are safe in Hyderabad and Telangana because of their leadership, but incidents like these create fear and insecurity among ordinary citizens. He questioned why Muslim traders and transporters were facing harassment if there was no ban on transportation, and why vigilante groups were being allowed to operate freely. The MBT spokesman also questioned the silence of Congress minority leaders over the issue.
Mr. Khan alleged that Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy was practicing soft Hindutva politics. He demanded immediate action against those involved in the attack, stronger policing against vigilante groups, and protection for innocent citizens and lawful traders. The MBT spokesman called for clear policy guidelines on cattle transportation and an end to vigilante activities that create an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among traders and transporters in the state.
