Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the government is considering banning the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party led by former prime minister Imran Khan. This follows attacks by PTI supporters on military installations after Khan’s arrest by paramilitary Rangers from the Islamabad High Court on 9 May. “A decision [to ban PTI] has not been taken yet, but a review is surely underway,” said Asif. Last week, former information minister Fawad Chaudhry resigned from the PTI party, and a day later former minister for human rights Shireen Mazari also quit and condemned the actions of the former prime minister’s supporters.
