Indian Community in Panama Meets with Jaishankar, Who Visits City’s Hindu Temple

India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, visited Panama on Tuesday and met with the Indian community. During the meeting, he expressed how surprised he was that it was the first time in 60 years an Indian External Affairs Minister had visited Panama. He also spoke about his visit to a Hindu temple in Panama and his meeting with Panama’s President and Foreign Minister. The majority of Indians living in Panama are Gujaratis, Sindhis and Sikhs.

Jaishankar also discussed India’s efforts to evacuate Indians stranded in Sudan due to the ongoing conflict. He announced the launch of ‘Operation Kaveri’ to bring back stranded Indians from Sudan. Last year, during ‘Operation Ganga’ and ‘Vande Bharat Mission,’ India successfully brought back stranded Indians from Ukraine and different parts of the world during the pandemic.

After his visit to Panama, Jaishankar will visit Colombia, where he will review bilateral ties with his Colombian counterpart. On Monday, Jaishankar joined the President of Guyana at the commissioning of an India-made ferry that would enhance connectivity and provide economic opportunities in the country’s hinterlands.
