The Passing Out Parade of the 24th batch of the All India Level Canine Basic Induction Course was held at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy (IITA), Moinabad on Friday. The event marked the completion of an eight-month training program for police dogs and their handlers.
B Shivadhar Reddy, the Director General of Intelligence, attended the ceremony and praised the role of these highly trained canines in ensuring public safety. He congratulated the trainees and commended their hard work, dedication, and discipline. He also emphasized the deep bond between the handlers and their dogs, calling them “partners, protectors, and loyal companions.”
This year’s batch included 72 canines and 101 handlers from different state and central police forces, including those from Telangana, Bihar, Goa, Tripura, CISF, RGIA, and RPF (Secunderabad & Vijayawada). The police dogs—36 Labrador Retrievers, 8 German Shepherds, and 28 Belgian Malinois—were trained in specialized areas such as explosives detection, narcotics detection, liquor detection, tracking, and assault operations.
During the event, Shivadhar Reddy also highlighted the achievements of Telangana Police's canine teams at the 68th All India Level Police Duty Meet 2024-25 held in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The team won six gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals, securing the Charminar Trophy for overall championship. One of the trained dogs, Teja, a narcotics detection dog from Cyberabad, won a Bronze Medal and helped the team secure the Runner’s Trophy.
As part of the celebrations, the newly trained canines and their handlers performed various demonstrations, including Namaste Drill, Obedience Drill, Scent Identification, Balloon Popping, Tug of War, Vehicle Jump, Monkey Walk, Running Race with Tyre, Hurdle Jump with Fire, Luggage Search, and Agility Obstacles. These performances showcased their skills and readiness for real-life law enforcement duties.
