In Nalgonda, there was a close contest in the MLC by-poll for the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal constituency. Congress candidate Teenmar Mallana faced tough competition from BRS candidate Anugula Rakesh Reddy. The winner was determined through second preference votes since no candidate received enough first preference votes.

After the first round of counting, Mallanna had a lead of 18,000 votes. The margin remained close until 48 candidates were eliminated during the counting of second preference votes. Mallanna secured victory when BJP candidate Gujjala Premender Reddy was eliminated by a margin of 20,000 votes.

Mallanna reached the required 155,000 votes during the elimination of BJP candidate Gujjala Premender Reddy. Political analysts viewed Rakesh Reddy’s defeat as a victory in defeat. This was Mallanna’s third attempt at becoming an MLC as a candidate of the ruling party.
