Karimnagar: The reservoirs in Karimnagar district, including Lower Manair, Sripada Ellampalli, and Rajarajeswara, are overflowing due to continuous rains over the past four days.

With heavy rains over the last three days, large amounts of water from the Moyatummeda River, Mulavagu, and other areas are flowing into the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) project. The authorities may need to release water from the dam at any moment.

Floodwater from the catchment area of the LMD reservoir has been entering the project for the past three days. On Tuesday night, heavy rain in the catchment area caused a significant increase in floodwater entering the dam on Wednesday. Officials report that about 39,000 cusecs of water are currently entering the reservoir. The release of water will occur once the storage reaches 22 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet).

The LMD reservoir has a capacity of 24 TMC, and it currently holds 17 TMC of water due to the continuous rains and additional water from the Mid Manair Reservoir. Government Whip and Dharmapuri MLA Adluri Laxman Kumar, along with officials, inspected the Lingapur village pond, which is in a dangerous condition, and a submerged bridge between Shalapalli and Adupapalli villages in the Dharmapuri constituency. The officials were instructed to release water from Lingapur lake, the largest in the mandal.

In Siricilla district, Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha and SP Akhil Mahajan inspected the flood situation at Lingannapet bridge in Gambhiraopet mandal, the upper Manair reservoir in Narmala village, and the Bikka river between Jawaripet and Narsakkapet villages in Illantakunta mandal, along with relevant officials.

The Ellamma river overflowed at Koyada, causing traffic disruption on the Karimnagar main road near Indorethi Koyada. The overflowing of the Indurthi Sanghajipet pond and the Ellamma river from the bridge on the Indurthi Koidam main road also disrupted traffic, prompting the revenue police to set up barricades to prevent access.

Several other ponds, including those in Saidapur, Venkepally, Perkapally, Akunur, and Duddenapally, are also overflowing. Adarsha School was flooded due to heavy floodwater from Somaram square, where three streams converge. Crops in the low-lying areas of the Somaram revenue suburb have been submerged.

Executive Engineer of Irrigation, P Nagabhushanam, informed “The Hans India” that there is a high possibility of opening the gates of Lower Manair soon due to the increasing floodwaters. He advised people in lowland areas, including cattle, sheep farmers, and other farmers, to stay alert.
