Kalvakuntla Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruti, was arrested in Hyderabad on Tuesday. She protested against the Telangana Road Transport Corporation's (TGRTC) decision to raise bus pass prices.
Kavitha and her supporters gathered at Bus Bhavan to voice their strong opposition. The protest began after various political leaders joined a meeting at Telangana Jagruti's headquarters in Banjara Hills. At Bus Bhavan, a large crowd was already present, chanting against the fare hike and criticizing the state government’s decision as unfair to the public.
As the situation heated up, police stepped in and detained Kavitha, moving her to Kanchan Bagh Police Station. Kavitha spoke to the media, condemning the government’s decision as harmful to students, commuters, and low-income workers. She accused the government of exploiting citizens under the pretense of raising revenue.
“The government is offloading its failures onto the people,” Kavitha said. She demanded the fare increase be reversed and warned that Telangana Jagruthi would persist with its protests until the decision was changed.
