Hyderabad is witnessing a possible rift involving Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the leader of Telangana Jagruthi. Her family and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) seem less supportive, especially after the recent comments made by Teenmar Mallanna. Prominent family members like K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao have not voiced any support, unlike before when they supported her during her arrest related to the Delhi Government liquor case.
Surprisingly, the Congress party has stepped in to back Kavitha. After Mallanna’s comments, Telangana Jagruthi activists retaliated by attacking a channel’s office linked to a Congress MLC. Complaints were filed against these activists. The BRS took over 24 hours to respond, and only through a press release by S Madhusudhana Chary, the Leader of Opposition in the Council.
Key figures like K T Rama Rao and Harish Rao, who usually express concerns on social media, have remained silent. Unlike past incidents involving fake reports about party members, there was no significant defense for Kavitha from the party’s leaders.
Recently, K T Rama Rao and Harish Rao met with party leader K Chandrashekar Rao, but there was no mention of the Mallanna controversy. Kavitha’s earlier letter to her father, K Chandrashekar Rao, hinted at internal issues and described certain people around him as “demons.” This led K T Rama Rao to suggest the presence of “covert agents” within the party. The BRS leader sent someone to discuss the matter with Kavitha, which seemed to calm the situation until the Mallanna incident reignited tensions.
BRS members have not actively supported Kavitha’s recent initiatives. Leaders were absent during a protest against a notice to K Chandrashekar Rao and during celebrations organized by Telangana Jagruthi after a Congress government ordinance increased reservations for Backward Classes in local elections.
The comments from both BRS and Congress leaders have left Kavitha’s supporters puzzled. Congress figures like Mahesh Goud and Ponnam Prabhakar criticized Mallanna’s remarks, emphasizing their respect for women. Meanwhile, BRS’s D Sudheer Reddy condemned the comments but also criticized Jagruthi leaders for their violent actions, stressing that violence is not a democratic solution.
