Hyderabad: Opposition BRS Skips MLA Orientation Programme
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the main opposition party, chose to boycott an orientation programme organized for MLAs and MLCs. This session was designed to train new legislators and serve as a refresher for senior members.
Speaking to the media during the event, Minister for Legislative Affairs D Sridhar Babu expressed disappointment over the BRS’s absence. He noted that all other parties, including the BJP and the Left, had participated in the session. He added that it would have been beneficial for the opposition to attend as well.
The minister criticized the BRS for its decision, stating that the party needs to face reality. He accused BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) of “daydreaming” about returning to power. Sridhar Babu emphasized that the orientation programme was non-political and condemned KTR for instructing his MLAs to skip it, calling it a sign of a narrow mindset.
Sridhar Babu also dismissed the idea that the Congress would pave the way for the BRS to regain power. He highlighted that during the BRS’s 10-year rule, no such orientation programmes were ever conducted, suggesting that the party should not be overconfident about its prospects.
When asked about BRS’s claims regarding the Telugu Thalli statue, Sridhar Babu accused Finance Minister Harish Rao of spreading misinformation. He challenged the BRS to provide proof of officially installing statues in Hyderabad, asserting that the statue unveiled on Tuesday was the only official one. He warned that any attempts to remove or tamper with it would face legal consequences.
Separately, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar responded to allegations from the BRS that he was being biased in the Legislative Assembly. The Speaker denied these claims, asserting that he is impartial and urging the BRS to stop making baseless accusations.
