Hyderabad: Dr. K Laxman, a Rajya Sabha member and head of the BJP OBC Morcha, criticized AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge for labeling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 11-year tenure as an “undeclared emergency.” He argued that these years have shown a strong dedication to development, which he feels the Congress Party cannot accept after recent election losses.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dr. Laxman reminded the media of the real emergency in 1975 during Congress rule, highlighting that, unlike then, Modi’s government has strengthened democratic institutions, maintained an independent judiciary, and upheld media freedom.
He praised India’s democracy, noting that a Prime Minister from a humble background was elected for a third term. Dr. Laxman mentioned that the Modi government created numerous jobs through programs like Startup India, Standup India, and Make in India, alongside investments in infrastructure like roads, railways, and airports, boosting employment. He also highlighted the increase in farmers’ income, with the paddy support price rising from Rs 1,310 to Rs 2,300, and benefits from free urea, soil health cards, and crop insurance.
Dr. Laxman applauded women’s empowerment schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Matru Vandana Yojana, and the 33% reservation for women in legislative assemblies, along with extended maternity leave. He spoke positively about India’s foreign policy improvements, noting stronger ties with the United States, Russia, Israel, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, he praised the Indian Army for its strong actions against terrorism, including Operation Sindoor.
Despite political tensions with Congress and BRS leaders in Telangana, Dr. Laxman assured that Prime Minister Modi treats all state Chief Ministers equally, ensuring resources and projects are allocated regardless of political ties.
Dr. Laxman reaffirmed the BJP's commitment to national development over electoral politics and emphasized the party’s dedication to supporting the people of Telangana and addressing their needs. He urged Mallikarjun Kharge and the Congress party to acknowledge these achievements.
